Cathie Rae is the eldest of a family of 6 talented Scottish Musicians which include her brothers John (drummer) and Ronnie (pianist) and sisters Gina, Sylvia (both singers) and Gillian. Her mother Margaret, is a retired music teacher and father Ronnie, a profession jazz bassist.

Cathie recently launched her new CD, Flow, at the 2005 Edinburgh International Jazz Festival after completing a 15 date UK tour with Martin Kersahw (sax) and Steve Hamilton (piano).

Cathie launched her debut CD "Time Out" (JBS01) on her own record label, Jazz Base Scotland, at the Bank of Scotland Edinburgh International Jazz Festival on 29 July supporting jazz legend Sheila Jordan. A 20-date tour of Scotland follows supported by the Scottish Arts Council's pilot touring Scheme. The first jazz singer to be supported by this scheme.

Cathie's influences include singers such as Ricky Lee Jones, Chet Baker, Bob Dorough, Shirley Horne, Ernestine Anderson, Nat King Cole and Nancy Wilson. She is confident, classy and equally comfortable singing beautiful ballads with her trio or fronting the swinging sound of her fabulous quintet.

Cathie's past projects include: A Tribute to Chet Baker with BBC jazz award winner 2004 Colin Steele, The Rae Sisters with Gina and Sylvia Rae and Flow Experience with Steve Hamilton and Martin Kershaw. She also has her own sextet which featured some of the best young jazz musicians in Scotland. She was brought up in the true jazz tradition by father Ronnie, a professional jazz bass player and mother Margaret, a music teacher. She has many influences: Chet Baker, Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderly, Nat King Cole and contemporary artists such as Stevie Wonder, Christine Tobin and Ricky Lee Jones.

Cathie’s new CD, Flow (JBS03), features Steve Hamilton on piano, Martin Kershaw on sax, as well as bassist Aidan O’Donnell, drummer John Blease and guitarist Graem Scott and was again produced by Cathie's partner Julian Arguelles. She has just finished a 15 date tour of the UK which ended with the launch of her CD at the Edinburgh International Jazz Festival. Cathie is currently working on a tour for next year with Graeme Scott and is also available for festival bookings throughout the UK and Europe.
